     American Militia Top Hat (39.24)[1]

American Militia Top Hat (39.24)[1]

American Militia Top Hat – This one is circa 1820-35 with a silk cockade of red, white, and blue with an embroidered and sequined star in the center. There’s a very nice Federal Eagle in brass at the top edge of the cockade. The hat is marked by a Hartford, Conn. maker and has a full 3” wide sweatband. The top 2 inches of the sides was pushed down a bit and so I have had a restorer put a pasteboard ring inside to support and protect its integrity. This ring is not affixed and can be removed easily with no damage to the hat. In very nice condition and most attractive. (39.24) [#1]
