Leach Bowl (410.67)

Leach Bowl – Home to leaches used by Medical Doctors to bleed their patients. Leaches were thought to be more humane than cutting with venesection knives or fleems. Ugh! Hand blown clear glass with nice pontil mark. 5” dia. and 4” tall. George Washington’s doctors used leaches on him and bled the great man to death. A medical practice from ancient times through our Civil War. This bowl is circa 1820-60.
